Early Years (0-4 years)

We often think that infants, toddlers and preschoolers are active and they spend little time being quiet and not moving.  But for healthy growth and development, it is important to be aware of how much time they spend being sedentary during their waking hours.  Sitting for long periods of time limits body movement and so it is important to make sure that time spent in a stroller or high chair be no more than one hour at a time. 

 

TV, computer or video games also limits body movement and is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

When children are between the ages of 2-4 years, it is important to only allow them to spend under one hour of screen time a day.  Screen time takes time away from allowing them to be physically active.  Less screen time is even better.
